04/30/2008 - Sandisk

Sandisk Cruzer micro 4.0GB USB drive: Why I will NEVER buy another Sandisk product.

This product was purchased Jun-17-2007 for $59.99 and the LED was part time from day one.

The warranty says:
...SanDisk warrants that this product will be free from material defects in manufacture and will substantially conform to the published specifications under normal use...

Their support says:
...The warranty only covers issues which impair the functionality of the device. As such, since the functionality of the drive is not effected, this is not an issue which will require replacement...

Long story short, what they provide as a spec for the product really has nothing to do with what they warranty. Apparently, you could buy the product and then the next day the "Brilliant amber LED" could stop working, and they would say "too bad, but the specification provided is really not part of the product warranty". What a crock of shit.

This is the third Sandisk product I have purchased in less than two years, and ALL THREE became defective in one way or another whilst under warranty. To their credit, Sandisk did replace two of the crapped products, but not this one. I am the customer who won't be coming back.

02/06/2008 - Aqualung my friend...

In the beginning Man created god; and in the image of Man created he him.

Aqualung my friend...

  1. In the beginning Man created god; and in the image of Man created he him.
  2. And Man gave unto god a multitude of names. That he might be lord over all the earth when it was suited to Man.
  3. And on the seven millionth day Man rested and did lean heavily on his god and saw that it was good.
  4. And Man formed Aqualung of the dust of the ground. And a host of others likened unto his kind.
  5. And these lesser men Man did cast into the void. And some were burned, And some were put apart from their kind.
  6. And Man became the god that he had created and with his miracles did rule over all the earth.
  7. But as all these things did come to pass, the spirit that did cause man to create his god, lived on within all men, even within Aqualung.
  8. And man saw it not.
  9. But for Christ’s sake he’d better start looking.

Aqualung

Sitting on a park bench,
Eyeing little girls with bad intent.
Snot's running down his nose.
Greasy fingers smearing shabby clothes.
Hey, Aqualung
Drying in the cold sun.
Watching as the frilly panties run.
Hey, Aqualung
Feeling like a dead duck,
Spitting out pieces of his broken luck.
Woah, Aqualung.

Sun streaking cold
An old man wandering lonely.
Taking time the only way he knows.
Leg hurting bad,
As he bends to pick a dog end.
He goes down to the bog
And warms his feet.

Feeling alone,
The army's up the rode.
Salvation a la mode
And a cup of tea.
Aqualung, my friend
Don't you start away uneasy.
You poor old sot,
You see it's only me.

Do you still remember
A December's foggy freeze?
When the ice that clings on to your beard
It was screaming agony. (Hey!)
And you snatch your rattling last breaths,
With deep-sea diver sounds,
And the flowers bloom like madness in the spring.

Sun streaking cold
An old man wandering lonely.
Taking time the only way he knows.
Leg hurting bad,
as he bends to pick a dog end.
He goes down to the bog
And warms his feet.

Feeling alone,
The army's up the rode.
Salvation a la mode
And a cup of tea.
Aqualung, my friend
Don't you start away uneasy.
You poor old sot,
You see it's only me.
(Meee...)
(Woah-oh-oh...)

Cross-Eyed Mary

Who would be a poor man,
a beggarman, a thief --
if he had a rich man in his hand.
And who would steal the candy
from a laughing baby's mouth
if he could take it from the money man.
Cross-eyed Mary goes jumping in again.
She signs no contract
but she always plays the game.
Dines in Hampstead village
on expense accounted gruel,
and the jack-knife barber drops her off at school.
Laughing in the playground -- gets no kicks from little boys:
would rather make it with a letching grey.
Or maybe her attention is drawn by Aqualung,
who watches through the railings as they play.
Cross-eyed Mary finds it hard to get along.
She's a poor man's rich girl
and she'll do it for a song.
She's a rich man stealer
but her favour's good and strong:
She's the Robin Hood of Highgate --
helps the poor man get along.

04/02/2007 - Crock of carp

Crock of crap

"I would really caution against people tinkering with their pets' nutrition by making their own food," said Martha Wilder, the executive director of the Pet Food Association of Canada.

Wilder noted that recalls sparked by tainted food are far more common in the human food industry. Last year saw several high-profile recalls, including carrot juice and spinach.

Wilder might note the above, but in as much as the pet food industry apparently doesn't know its ass from its elbow at this point, and it seems that feeding a pet ANY brand of commercial food could be a death sentence, I say she is full of crap! People who make their own pet food might be "tinkering with their pets' nutrition", BUT, commercial pet food producers are "tinkering" with our pets' very lives!

1. Two guys walking very briskly by. I think that the one on the right has a candy cane in hand.

2. Two minutes later, marauders come at our place. The one on the left has something in hand.

3. Two seconds later, still coming.

4. One second later, in retreat. Something has scared them.

5. Two minutes later, our neighbour has moved beyond our place. And finds the first broken candy cane.

Merry Christmas to the low-lifes who have destroyed a total of five small candy canes; knocked over one huge candy cane; attempted to rip our lights out of the tree. May they rot in flaming Hell!

You can "grab" interesting tidbits of info, paste them in, make them part of your "knowledge base", and then review them again anytime without loading up your internet browser favourites list. Of course the content created is fully searchable (by you). Great for those of us who might want a "Memory Mate"!

I have recently added a programmable (receive notification 'x' number of days before the event) remind functionality to this module. The reminders you set in the Personal Calendar will show up much the same way as messages now show up on the site home page.

Owen,

I don't think I am asking a lot by insisting I know what it is I am considering purchasing!!! Your ad is AMBIGUOUS! You have ONE item with TWO part numbers: 6620 and 6620G. They are not the SAME device! I want to know what it is you are selling. Is it the 6620 (wired) OR 6620G (wireless)?

Surely to God someone there knows the answer to this question. Your site says you have 5 in stock. Why don't you ask someone there to find one and see what it says on the box? If I am going to spend $750 on a web cam, I bloody-well WILL know what it is I am buying.

Thank you.

Regards, Ron.

One product - 2 part numbers!!!!

Which product do you sell for CDN $750.99??

10/100TX PTZ INTERNET CAMERA OPTICAL ZOOM DUAL CODEC 0.05LUX

Is it the DCS-6620 which is a "wired" webcam or the SecuriCam Network DCS-6620G Wireless Internet Camera.

Your spec says wireless, but your picture is of a "wired" 6620 and you mention BOTH part numbers in the same ad. I am confused.

06/19/2005 - An eyesore on a city street

Think they'd let this happen in Rockcliffe?

There is a real eyesore on this street. Since Tuesday June 14 a smashed older model dark blue Honda civic has remained as you see it here. The car does not belong to the home owner in front of who's house it is parked. Ottawa police and Ottawa By-Law have been contacted, and they say the car is not stolen and therefore nothing can be done other than to ticket the car (which has not happened yet) for exceeding the 3 hour time limit for on-street parking. It is disturbing that someone can just abandon a wrecked vehicle on a residential street and nothing can be done about it. As you can see from the photo, this car can not or at least should not be driven and residents should not have to look at this on their street. I wonder how long a situation like this would be tolerated in Rockcliffe?

On June 19, M. Bédard was made aware of this situation, and on that same day, the vehicle was ticketed. The next day, it was ticketed again and subsequently removed from the city street by the owner.

Our thanks to Councillor Bédard for sticking a burn up the butts of our complacent and disinterested law enforcement types.

04/24/2005 - Results of the last poll.

Does this make sense?

TORONTO -- Even as residential hydro users are facing an average 6% rate hike today, the Sunshine Law reveals that almost 5,800 hydro employees made $100,000 or more last year, while their boss pulled in a cool $1 million-plus. Hydro One CEO Tom Parkinson, who was recently in the news for using a company helicopter to travel to his cottage, topped the list of top earners in the public service sector with a $1.07-million salary, plus some $37,000 in benefits.

I say again, does this make sense?

Yes it's true!

When residents of a quiet neighbourhood in Vanier discovered GIANT ASPARAGUS growing in their yard, they became quite concerned for their property.  Rumour has it, there is someone living in Vanier willing to pay up to $8.00 per pound for this vegetable.  The residents who prefer to remain anonymous say “Having someone so close by, willing to go to that extreme for asparagus has us very concerned for our unusual crop.  We have hired armed guards to keep a close watch on our garden."

The picture seen here is actual size!  Who would have thought asparagus could grow that big?

04/09/2004 - Charged up over salaries

Doorknobs -- this has been going on for years.

TORONTO -- The percentage of workers at Ontario Power Generation and Hydro One earning $100,000 or more has skyrocketed over the past five years, and that's "out of line," Energy Minister Dwight Duncan said yesterday. "They're certainly out of line with a public utility and they appear to be out of line with Ontario, with the broader public sector," Duncan said.

A GROUP of Vanier residents has been helping their community shed its negative image. The Vanier Association of Concerned Citizens works with police and city council to help lower the crime rate in their neighbourhood. Specifically, the association is concerned about drug dealing, drug houses and prostitution.

"Without our police department or our city councillors, we really couldn't do this," said Margaret Weil, chairwoman of the association.

Because the police can't watch Vanier's high-crime areas all the time, the association acts as their "eyes and ears" within the community. Since the group was formed a year ago, it has helped close down five "crack houses" in the neighbourhood, said association member Bruce McConville.

ACTING TOGETHER

"The first step of getting involved in crime prevention is the involvement of the community where it's happening," said McConville.

He described the involvement of Vanier residents working together and acting as eyes and ears for the police as a "responsibility of citizenship."

"If people continually turn the blind eye or don't phone in complaints, that's not going to help the problem," he said. "A large belief that I hold very dear is that communities that have issues with crime, the best place to go is to the community itself."

Leo Lavergne, the executive director of the Pauline Charron Centre in Vanier, agrees that these types of groups create a better place to live. "Any group that starts up and starts putting any kind of pressure or gets involved in making this a better place to live is contributing to our well-being," he said.

The Vanier Association of Concerned Citizens meets on the second Wednesday of every month.

Cliff Clavin explaining the Buffalo Theory to his buddy Norm

"Well ya see, Norm, it's like this... A herd of buffalo can only move as fast as the slowest buffalo!  And when the herd is hunted, it is the slowest and weakest ones at the back that are killed first. This natural selection is good for the herd as a whole, because the general speed and health of the whole group keeps improving by the regular killing of the weakest members. In much the same way, the human brain can only operate as fast as the slowest brain cells. Excessive intake of alcohol, as we know, kills brain cells. But naturally, it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first. In this way, regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine. That's why you always feel smarter after a few beers."
